Traditional lotus seed paste mooncakes generally have a shelf life of 60-90 days and can be stored at room temperature. Lava mooncakes, containing cream fillings, have a shorter shelf life of 30-45 days and should be refrigerated. Snow skin mooncakes have the shortest shelf life at 15-25 days and must be refrigerated.
Experts specifically remind consumers to eat mooncakes as soon as possible after opening and avoid repeated freezing and thawing. If mold or unusual odor is detected, consumption should be stopped immediately.
